STUDENT F-1 VISA

Shepherd University is authorized by US federal law to issue a Certificate of Eligibility for the I-20 form for the F-1 Student Visa. You will need to:

Once we have issued you an I-20 form, you will need to make an appointment for a visa interview with the American Embassy or General Consulate in your home country of residence. We strongly recommend you to avoid conducting your visa interview in another country because the processing time may be longer and more importantly, the process will be easier in your home country. You will need an F-1 student visa and it will be stamped in your passport. Some other requirements are:

1) Original passport being valid for at least 6 months from your planned time of arrival in USA.
2) All necessary documentation with our issued I-20.

At your visa interview, an officer may ask you many questions such as your study plan, purpose of study abroad as well as your future plan after your return to your home country. You also need to show proof of your intention of returning to your home country once your completion of study. Accordingly, schedule sufficient time to apply for your student visa before leaving your country, and also be well prepared carefully in advance. After the 9/11 incident in New York in 2001, all papers you submit will be reviewed strictly for security reasons.

During your flight to aboard, flight attendants will give you two types of US custom forms. One is a baggage claim and the other is an I-94 entry form (white color). At US customs on your initial arrival with an F-1 visa, please show the officer your passport and your I-20 along with the 2 types of US customs forms. Immigration will stamp your I-20 and staple an I-94 entry card into your passport. These are very important documents for the verification of your legal entry into USA. You should bring all these documents with you to the first day of school, as the admission Director of Shepherd University will make copies of them for your updated student file.

Please keep in mind that all F-1 visa holders are required to maintain a study schedule of not less than 18 hours per week. Otherwise, your status as a full time student may be canceled. For any specific visa or travel related questions or concerns, please email us at support@shepherdunversity.medicalusa.org
